Pretty much my entire family lives in Northern California. My parents were born and raised here and still hang out with the same people from childhood. After living in Colorado for 4 years, followed by 4 more in San Diego I moved back home over Labor Day weekend. Aaron and I had been talking about moving for awhile and had gone over and over our options. Pro/Con lists were written and scenarios were discussed. We decided that Sacramento was the place for us.
I am really happy we made the decision we did. It is nice to be able to see my family on a regular basis, not just special holidays. Spending time with them is so much more relaxed without the packed schedules that come with the holiday season.
Last night was a perfect example. My mom had two free tickets to the Dolphins and Whales IMAX movie that she got for donating blood (you go, mom) and she invited me to join her. I accepted, of course! It was both of our first 3D IMAX experience. It was quite an experience. The film was only 45 minutes but it was very interesting and I fell in love with the animals, especially the manatees.
They were so cute and they reminded me a little of myself – they love vegetables and they even eat so many veggies that they have a lot of gas. Hey, it’s only natural!
Let me tell you, 3D IMAX is not a first-date type of activity. The glasses were not the most flattering. Luckily this is NOT my mom and my first date! Doesn’t my mom look like Amelia Earhart with those glasses and her hair? So cute!
After the movie we had a veggie-filled, manatee-inspired dinner at a Thai restaurant. Oh how I have missed Thai food! Nom, nom, nom.
I am so thankful for my family and being able to spend quality time with them on a regular basis. I have already spent time with my mom twice this week and have enjoyed every minute of it. Love you, mom! Now we just need to get Aaron’s mom, Jill, to move out here. I know you are reading this, Jill! Hint, hint! 🙂 We miss you!

that is such an amazing thing to have..your family close. That is the BIGGEST sacrifice I make by living in Oz. It’s hard at times for sure.
Yes – I was never that far away, but I was at least a plane ride away for over 8 years and it was hard . Especially when everyone else is in the same place. Glad you get to do your race with them!
I will be thankful when you move back to SD so we can have our fun dates again 😉
I so miss our fun dates, Carl! Why can’t we all just get along and live in the same city? I need to combine San Diego, Sacramento and Denver into one city and then all will be right with the world. Miss you my love!
Well, I have to agree, that having family close is a BIG plus! As we grow, we tend to make different priorities. At this time in my life being close to what small family I have is really important to me. You and Aaron are building your lives together and we have all done that, (us older folks). I really love Idaho for now, and who knows when it is retirement time, California won’t look so non-appealing?? ……..love, jill

Was so fun at IMAX and it has been on my “bucket list” for quite some time—-wonderful feeling crossing things off. Unicycle–here I come.
But spending time with my daughter–as commercial says “priceless”.
Not too sure about those glasses!!!! Great experience–actually reached out to touch the whales they came SOOOOO close.
Yes – such a cool, but freaky feeling at IMAX. I ducked to dodge the humpback whale’s fin. Love you mom!
