Cola Braised Pulled Pork Sandwiches

I had already planned to make pulled pork sandwiches this week. Pork shoulder was on sale and I thought it would be something new to try. After Aaron had the Cola Braised Pork Sandwich at Fat Face, I wanted to try adding some Coke to the mix. This was such an easy, do ahead tasty meal.

2-lb. bone-in pork shoulder
1 20 oz. bottle Coca-Cola
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 yellow onion, sliced
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/ cup water
Salt and pepper
1 bottle favorite BBQ sauce
4 sandwich rolls

1. Layer bottom of crock pot with sliced onions
2. Add pork shoulder to crock pot
3. Add garlic, cola, vinegar and water
4. Season well with salt and pepper
5. Cook at low for 8-12 hours

After 8-12 hours, remove pork from crock pot and drain off liquid, reserving 1/2 cup. Add pork back to crock pot, remove bone and shred with two forks. Add BBQ sauce and some of cooking liquid (if needed).

Toast rolls, top with pulled pork and more BBQ sauce (optional). We enjoyed our sandwiches with corn on he cob and a green salad. We aren’t cole slaw fans, but if you are, it would go great with this recipe.



It was a hit! I named them Sloppy Josephs because they are kind of like grown up Sloppy Joes.
