What’s Next?

I had a little bit of a hard time falling asleep last night as I was starting to get the post-race blues.  I have talked about post race blues on the blog before. There is that moment of sadness when you realize it’s all over. You spend months training for and talking about your upcoming event and when it’s all over, you aren’t sure what to do with yourself.

I had a little moment of this last night, but the solution that always works for me is to start planning the next event. As I mentioned before, I am planning to train for and complete the California International Marathon on December 5th.

I am not going to jump right in to marathon training because for me, that would just be crazy! But I do plan to start to build my running base back up in the coming weeks. Here is a list of the goals, races and challenges I a hoping to add to my calendar in the coming months:

– Yoga Challenge. To transition from cycling to running, I plan to do a lot of yoga. Keep an eye out for me announcing a Yoga Challenge in the coming days.
– Folsom Lake FLOW Open Water Swim (.6, 1.2, or 2.4 mile swim) June 19th
Firecracker 10k – July 3rd
– The USAT Tri for Real #3 August 8th
Lake Tahoe Half Marathon September 26th
CIM Marathon December 5th

Sounds like a lot – but I am excited. I have been wanting to do another Olympic Distance triathlon for a long time. I have only done one and since then I have really improved my running and cycling. I feel like I could totally smoke my previous time!

I also want to make sure I continue to ride my bike, even if it is just once a week. I have a tendency to train hard for an event, and then when it’s over I take a break and have a hard time picking the bike or running shoes back up. It is a lot easier to stay in shape than it is to start over and get back into shape.

What do you have on the calendar for your training?
I can’t wait to continue my training and the first thing I need to do is start SWIMMING. I grew up swimming, but need to get some serious laps under my belt.

  1. I completely agree with your statement that it is easier to stay in shape than starting over! I signed up for a bunch of 5k’s this summer and I’m thinking of doing another half marathon in the Fall (just did one in the Spring).

That looks like such a fun plan. I love the idea of doing yoga to transition from cycling to running! I’m planning a few half IMs, and then a return to marathoning early next year!
