Playing Catch Up

The past two days I have felt like I am playing catch up. As you may know, I am a creature of habit (hence me being a weirdo and thinking I am going to really like marathon training). Plans have changed, conference calls have gone long, and new projects have been added to my plate. Thank goodness for Google Calendar and Tasks.  And Post-Its.  There are tiny little notes all over my computer and notebook.

One thing that has also saved me is setting my alarm early to get up and get my workout done. Tuesday was 5 miles, Wednesday 3 miles, and Thursday a 13 mile bike ride. If you are someone who has a busy schedule, I cannot stress enough how helpful it is to exercise in the morning. No one is going to ever ask me to get a drink or go out to eat at 5AM. No one is going to expect me on a 6AM conference call. That is the time I know can be all mine and I feel so much better when I take advantage of that time. Here are some reasons to get your sweat on first thing in the AM:

  • It’s cooler
  • There’s less distractions (or excuses) to get in the way
  • You’ll sleep better at night
  • You can have a social life after work
  • You will have more energy
  • You will eat better the rest of the day
  • It’s cooler out

My big plan for the day I didn’t get to was a nap. My workout, work and life schedule has been leaving me wiped. It being 100+ degrees everyday doesn’t help either. I am hoping my 5 mile run tomorrow doesn’t suffer because of it. Nap tomorrow, maybe!

In other news, I have been working on a fun video to try to win Aaron a face-to-face meeting with FoodNetwork executives. Hopefully in a few weeks he will be a finalist and you can vote for him!

  1. I couldn’t agree more! People think I’m crazy for getting up at 4:45 every morning to work out, but it really is the best way. When I push it off to the afternoon my motivation is just not there! Lately I’ve been trying to do my long runs on Fridays since I’m used to getting up early…I just get up at 4:30 instead (though as they get longer I’m going to have to switch to Saturdays! I don’t think I can get up before 4. I do have my limits :))

I have to work out in the morning otherwise I’ll be dreading the afternoon all day and know that I’ll give in and end up at home on the couch and never work out anyways. My only problem is that by the end of the week I get so exhausted I can barely stay awake all day!

Keep everyone posted on Aaron’s Food Network video! Alex and I always talk about what kind of show we would have, what we would make, etc. when we watch the Next Food Network Star. That would be so fun to meet the Food Network people and/or be on tv!

  3. […] 16, 2010 Yesterday I talked about the benefits of morning workouts. The drawback of morning workouts (like Lisa commented) is that by the end of the week they can […]
