Today marked the completion of week 8 of marathon training. That means I am HALF WAY THERE! I can’t believe it. Now the really hard part starts! Last night my friend Lisa texted me that she was in town from the Bay Area and wanted to know if she could join me for part of my run. Hell ya!
Lisa met me at mile 4.5 and we ran 5 miles together before I finished up the last 4.5 miles alone. It was so nice to have company. This was the first run in my 8 weeks of training that I have had someone join me – it was wonderful to break it up. I finished the 14 miles in 2:22:00 for a pace of 10:08. I was pretty happy with that. I read in Runner’s World recently that you can expect to run a race about 1 minute faster per mile than you run your long runs. I sure hope that is true because I would love to run the marathon somewhere in the 9 minute per mile range. Right around 9:30 I think would be a pretty comfortable pace for me. Who knows what will happen when race day comes, though!
To reward myself for making it this far in training, I bought myself a present when I got home. I have been waiting years for this day:
Yep – I bought myself a Garmin. I am so excited!! I think it will be a great tool and motivator as I get into the Monster Month of training!
The one thing about running with a friend is that I didn’t fuel as well on my run as I would have liked. I drank a bottle of Perpetuem and had one Clif Shot. With about 2 miles to go my tummy was growling bad! I wound up taking half of my second Clif Shot to get me through.
When I got home I made a homemade Recoverite that included:
- 1/2 banana
- 1 cup fat free milk
- 1/2 cup greek yogurt
- 1 1/2 cups spinach
- half packet Terra’s Whey Chocolate protein powder
I drank the smoothie while soak in the ice bath before Aaron made me my new favorite post run breakfast of roasted sweet potato and runny egg with a little surprise of goat cheese under the egg! Yum!
I am hungry again, so I think we will be trying a new place for lunch and going to thrift stores for Halloween supplies! Have a great Saturday – it is gorgeous today!
