February Shmedbruary

Every chance we get, we have been trying to take advantage of the unseasonably warm winter we are having.  I know we need the rain, but I really can’t complain about days like today.  We have been talking about going for a hike with the dog for a few weeks now. This is the first weekend we didn’t have many plans, so hike weekend, it was!

After researching some good spots for hikes, we settled on Jenkinson Lake. We have camped in the area before and loved it. Being only about 60 miles away it was easy for a quick trip up and back. We woke up to dense fog in Sacramento, but once we headed up the hill a bit, the sun was shinning!

Cash knew we were up for something when we got in the car instead of going for a normal walk. He loves car rides because there is always something fun at the end of the ride.

It was so nice to smell the fresh air, pine trees and mountain air.

Aaron was wearing shorts and a T-shirt, and the sun felt amazing, but we could see the snow-capped Sierras in the distance. So beautiful.

Aaron made delicious sandwiches to munch on at our turnaround point. Turkey, ham, Havarti, lettuce, tomato, onion, Chitpotle mayo. Plus some BBQ chips and an apple. Cheers!

Cash had the best time, which is no surprise. He loves adventures (just like mom and dad), being outside and swimming. I can only imagine how cold that water was, but he didn’t care!

We covered 3.25 miles and then headed back home. Such a fun way to spend half of a Sunday and I hope we do it again. We kept pinching ourselves that it is the middle of February and we were hiking where there has been snow in the past.

Now Cash, Aaron and I are all bathed and relaxing for the rest of our Sunday. Weekends, why are you so short?

Not Quite The Track

Today I used my Smart Coach app again for my workout.  Tuesdays are speedwork days.  On the agenda today was:

1 mile warm up
3 x 800 @4:01 with 400 recovery
1 mile cool down

I decided to try utilizing my Garmin’s interval function to help me complete the workout. Last night I programmed it for the interval distances and gave it a whirl this morning.  I don’t have access to a real track, but this is much prettier, don’t you think?

Man those three intervals took it out of me.  Hopefully those will get easier as I do more of them. One thing, my inner thighs/front of my hips get really sore when I run hard.  Any ideas how I can strengthen them or the muscles around them to prevent that?  I am trying to incorporate more lunges and plie squats into my strength routine, but any other suggestions are welcome.  When all was said and done I completed 4.25 miles before meeting up with Cash and Aaron for a walk.

Now I am cranking out lots of work but wishing I was laying in the sun with the animals:

Rough life, huh?

It’s Back…

Today I spent the morning glued to my seat working. I didn’t even realize how long I hadn’t moved for until I had to pee.

I didn’t actually feel like running, but I really wanted fresh air and to get moving.  So I laced up and took Cash for a 30 minute walk.  He was SO happy to get outside for his second walk of the day.  Lucky dog!

It was a perfect Fall day today.  Sunny, crisp, not cold. The sunshine and fresh air felt great.  And making Cash happy is just the best.  He loves being outside and exploring so much – we can learn a lot from our pets!

I also did a quick (yet hardcore) strength routine:

  • 10 push ups
  • 20 tricep dips
  • 30 bicep curls
  • 40 second plank
  • 50 mountain climbers
  • 40 second plank
  • 30 bicep curls
  • 20 tricep dips
  • 10 push ups
  • 20 kettlebell swings

Guess what else happened today?

That’s right – it’s back!  I finally broke the juicer out again after months of neglect.  A delicious mix of carrots, beets, orange and chard!  So good. And pretty!

Our Baby Is 2

Happy 2nd Birthday to the sweetest, most loyal friend a family could ask for:

Reading the first post about his arrival is so funny.  It is so fun to be able to look back on special moments like that. Definitely a benefit of the blog.

Some of the reasons I am thankful for Cash:

  • He is a true, loyal friend
  • He reminds me to stop and appreciate the little things in life
  • He always wakes up on the right side of the bed and can’t wait to start his day
  • He is always so supportive – cheering me on at races!

Cash proves that the best things in life are worth waiting for

I remember the days he couldn’t sleep through the night without a potty break (luckily that didn’t last too long).  The first trip to the dog park, introducing him and Trigger to each other for the first time (they were the same size), the first night Cash slept in our room and not in his kennel. He loves his big brother so much. I know Trigger loves him, too, even if he pretends he doesn’t.

He really add so much joy to our house and I can’t even remember life before him! I always think “If I love our dog and cat this much, how much am I going to love a baby?” I am convinced I will pop our baby’s head right off from squeezing him/her so tight!

Here’s to Cash!

The Dog Days of Winter

The weather just can’t seem to make up its mind. Sunny, rainy, sunny, rainy. Today it decided to be sunny. After my 7 mile run, filling my belly with my new favorite – TJ’s veggie burger, and a shower, Cash and I headed outside to play fetch, read and lounge in the sun.

There isn’t much I love more than watching how happy Cash is just to be outside playing. When we go for walks, he has a smile on his face the entire time. Take him outside and throw the ball for him? Forget about it! Just look….like a pig in sh*t!

How can you not love that face?!
